  1. Why do so many contemporary non-fiction writers use colons in their titles? Pressure from publishers? Herd instinct?

    Even some novelists have begun to do this.

    The trend bothers me, although for the life of me I cannot say why.

    Look, saved a word. How much of punctuation is just habit? I use too many commas, and I don’t always edit them out.
